| Scared of your own shadow? Or ready to step out of it? |
You know your week is off to a good start when you have 2 pieces in your inbox that make you crack up, pump your fist, and decide to go make it a great day.
First up, Bob Brody of www.letterstomykids.org sent me his hilarious piece from the Daily Caller "Measuring Up", which says, in part:
"I’d always suspected my comfort zone to be of inadequate magnitude. I mean, I’m averse even to a hint of risk. Making decisions gives me whiplash, which is why I wear a seatbelt at my desk. Seeing my own shadow so threatens my sense of security that I carry a flashlight. I’m so uncomfortable in my own skin I once tried to crawl out of it. Geneticists should probably study my DNA."
When the HR department tells him he has to expand his comfort zone if he wants to be promoted, he starts, well, going crazy. Unalphabetizing his rolodex and such. Read on and tell me if you think he needs to keep pushing the boundaries or if it's time to: Settle down, Bob! Before someone gets hurt!
THEN, I saw my dear friend Tamara Linse's more serious but equally energizing Writer, Cogitator, Recovering Ranch Girl blog post "A Braver Life, or Today I Write". She says:
"It is very hard to live a brave life. By brave, I mean following up on opportunities, going for your dreams, and allowing yourself to dream in the first part."
Living more bravely is a series of small decisions, she writes. And so hers for this Monday morning?
Is to write.
What is yours?
Will you share with us? So we can become braver with you?

Doing my financials, today, consitutes a major act of courage.
ReplyDeleteOof - good luck, Joe! I hope it's not as bad as you fear.
